Shira Route – 8 Days

Besides the various routes available on Mount Kilimanjaro, the Shira route consistently captivates the interest of trekkers. If you are contemplating embarking on a trek along this route, be prepared for an 8-day journey accompanied by experienced guides. To ensure the success and seamless execution of your trip, it is essential to visit company name and initiate your trek whenever convenient, following the provided instructions.

    Itinerary

    • Day 01: Arrival in Moshi

      Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to Moshi to check in at the hotel. The remainder of the day will be dedicated to preparing for the upcoming adventures on your journey. Expert instructions will be provided to ensure a smooth start to your trip.

    • Day 02: Shira One

      Proceed to the Londorossi National Park Gate to complete the registration process. The journey begins by traversing farmland and plantations, leading to a climb through shrub forests to reach the rim of Shira Plateau. The day concludes at Shira One, located at 3550m/11,646ft, after 3-4 hours of walking.

    • Day 03: Shira Hut

      Explore the volcanic rock formations and moorland of the plateau on day 3. Trek towards the summit of Shira Cathedral, experiencing the wilderness along the way. From Shira Two at 3840m/12,598ft, enjoy unforgettable views of Mt. Meru during 4-5 hours of walking.

    • Day 04: Moir Hut

      Following a light breakfast, embark on a climb through the upland desert, offering spectacular views below the lent hills. Lunch is served near Moir Hut, providing a pathway to reach the summit of Lent hills. Dinner and overnight at Moir Hut, situated at 4200m/13,779ft.

    • Day 05: Lava Tower Camp

      Day 5 involves a steep ascent over lava ridges, offering breathtaking views. After lunch at Lava Tower Camp (4550m/14,927ft), traverse the rocky lower slopes of the western breach before descending to Baranco Camp at 3900m/12,795ft. Dinner and overnight, with 6-7 hours of walking.

    • Day 06: Karanga Campsite

      Descend steeply to Barranco valley bottom, traverse Barranco wall, and reach the undulating trail crossing the flanks of Kibo. Approach Karanga Camp at 4100m/13,451ftafter 5-7 hours of walking.

    • Day 07: Barafu Campsite

      The path to Barafu Hut at 4600m/15,091ft offers diverse views. After lunch, spend the rest of the day resting and preparing for the final ascent, with 3-4 hours of walking.

    • Day 08: Mweka Forest Camp

      Start the ascent to Crater rim at midnight, reaching Stella Point at 5735m/18,815ft.
      Continue to climb to Uhuru Peak at 5895m/19,340m before descending swiftly to Barafu. After a brief refreshment, reach Mweka Forest Camp at 3100m/10,170ft, with 11-15 hours of walking.

    • Day 09: Mweka National Park Gate

      After breakfast, descend quickly to Mweka exit Gate, taking 4-5 hours.
