Tanzania Entry Requirements

Passport Validity: Must be valid for at least 6 months.

Blank Passport Pages: Minimum of 1 page.

Tourist Visa: Required. Available through online application or on arrival.

Vaccinations: Yellow fever vaccination mandatory if arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever endemic country for 12+ hours. The vaccine is available at entry points for $50.

Currency Restrictions for Entry: Declaration required for international currency over $10,000 on entry and exit. Non-residents (excluding Kenyans and Ugandans) cannot import/export Tanzanian Shillings (TZS).

Entry, Exit, and Visa Requirements:

Visas are necessary for travel to Tanzania. Apply online in advance via www.immigration.go.tz. Successful e-visa applicants receive a “grant notice” via email, to be presented to the Immigration Officer on arrival.

Alternatively, tourists can obtain a visa at Tanzanian airports. Fees are $100 USD for Americans and $50 USD for other nationalities, payable in cash if electronic transactions aren’t possible due to connectivity issues.

Minimum passport validity: 6 months beyond visa issuance/entry, with at least 1 blank visa page. Visitors with visas must show a roundtrip ticket and proof of adequate funds.

When entering or departing Zanzibar or traveling within the mainland, be ready to present your passport and discuss your visa status.

 

 

Yellow Fever Vaccination:

Mandatory for travelers arriving from or transiting through yellow fever endemic countries for 12+ hours. Direct arrivals from non-endemic areas (Europe, North America) generally don’t need a yellow fever certificate.
