Safari Drama: Roberta & NC’s 14-Day Adventure Across Tanzania
Guided by Calvin – Serengeti Clarity Professional Safari Guide
Some journeys begin the moment the plane lands. Others begin the moment laughter fills the safari jeep. For Roberta and her friend NC, their 14-day Tanzania adventure quickly transformed from an ordinary safari into what we proudly named “Safari Drama”—a journey overflowing with wildlife thrills, cultural surprises, heartfelt moments, and endless laughter.
From Tarangire to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro, and Materuni Waterfalls, this safari had everything—wild encounters, local experiences, unforgettable meals, and the best scenes nature could ever script.
A Surprise Start: Makuyuni Market Adventures
Their journey began with a lucky coincidence—a bustling market day in Makuyuni. Roberta and NC were amazed to see an entire sea of bananas and asked Calvin, our professional guide, if they could explore.
The real surprise, however, was the goat barbecue stand. Curious and adventurous, they decided to taste it—and loved it so much they bought an entire goat leg to enjoy for dinner upon arrival. According to them, it was the most delicious meat they had ever tasted.
And just like that, the safari spirit kicked in.
Lake Manyara National Park: Where It All Became “Safari Jesus”
The first official game drive took them to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its elephants and lush landscapes. As a huge elephant suddenly appeared beside their vehicle, Roberta could not hold back—she shouted “JESUS!” so loudly that we immediately nicknamed the safari “Safari Jesus.”
But as the days went on and the funny moments multiplied, the nickname evolved into “Safari Drama”—and for good reason.
Serengeti National Park: Welcomed by Lions on Honeymoon
The drive into Serengeti National Park brought the first major wildlife highlight—a pair of lions in their honeymoon phase right at the entrance. The drama had officially begun.
A Lioness, Her Cubs & A Hunt of a Lifetime
Roberta and NC watched a lioness with what looked like a million cubs heading toward a water source. Suddenly, a herd of zebra appeared. The lioness moved, and within seconds, she made a successful kill—providing a feast for her young ones.
But what happened next stunned everyone.
The dominant male arrived, roaring and asserting his authority. Calvin explained this is normal behavior to establish dominance. Yet surprisingly, after showing power, the male did not eat the zebra. Instead, he stood guard, allowing the cubs to feast. When they finished, the cubs and lioness approached the male lovingly—almost as if thanking him for protecting them.
For Roberta and NC, it was one of the most touching and emotional safari moments of their lives.
Sametu Region: The Three Lion Brothers & A Phone That Caused Panic
The journey continued to Sametu, where they encountered a coalition of three young, energetic lion brothers.
The funniest moment?
Roberta played a lion roar she had recorded earlier. The three brothers instantly reacted, scanning the plains in confusion, thinking a dominant male was coming to challenge them. The tension, the panic, the drama—it was unreal and incredibly real wildlife behavior!
More Lion Drama: A Pride Feasting on an Eland
As if their lion luck wasn’t already outrageous, the next day they found another pride celebrating a successful hunt—this time a massive common eland. The feast, the teamwork, the raw power—it was nature at its purest.
Ngorongoro Crater: A Peaceful Bush Lunch & Timeless Views
After the Serengeti chapter, the journey continued enroute to Ngorongoro Crater, where Roberta and NC enjoyed a beautiful bush lunch overlooking the crater lakes. The scenery, the breeze, the wildlife—it was a perfect moment of calm in a safari full of excitement.
Hadzabe & Datoga Tribes: A Cultural Safari Highlight
One of the most unique experiences of this trip was visiting the Hadzabe and Datoga communities near Lake Eyasi.
- The Hadzabe are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Africa, living a traditional lifestyle that has barely changed in thousands of years. They survive by hunting with bows and arrows and gathering wild fruits and honey. Roberta and NC were fascinated to witness their hunting techniques, including the skillful use of poison-tipped arrows, and even joined in the gathering of local honey.
- The Datoga, known as skilled blacksmiths and pastoralists, also welcomed them warmly. The group observed their traditional cattle herding and crafts, gaining insight into daily life that has remained deeply connected to the land and wildlife around them.
This tribal visit was not only educational but a deeply meaningful highlight of the safari—connecting the rich Tanzanian culture with the dramatic wildlife encounters they had experienced.
Kilimanjaro Day Hike: Another Episode of Drama
Their adventure continued with a Mount Kilimanjaro day hike, and true to their safari theme, it came with its own hilarious stories and dramatic moments. They loved every bit of the mountain experience.
Materuni Waterfalls & Coffee Tour: Nature, Culture & Pure Tanzanian Flavor
From the forest trails to the refreshing waterfall spray, Materuni Waterfalls was a magical highlight. The coffee tour that followed made the experience even richer—learning how Tanzanian Arabica coffee is planted, harvested, roasted, and brewed by hand. The taste of fresh coffee, prepared the traditional way, was unforgettable.
Final Taste of Tanzania: Local Food & Local Beer
Before heading to the airport, Roberta and NC enjoyed a hearty local meal at Mama Africa, followed by cold local beers—one last toast to Safari Drama.
A Safari Send-Off Party Like No Other
Back at the Serengeti Clarity office, we celebrated the end of their safari with a heartfelt party—dancing, champagne, celebration songs, and a special safari cake. It was emotional, joyful, and unforgettable.
Roberta and NC, our beloved “Drama Queens,” brought life, laughter, and warmth to every place they visited. It truly became one of those safaris that is hard to say goodbye to.
Our entire Serengeti Clarity team cannot wait to welcome them back again.
