Overview

Mount Meru, the second-highest peak in Tanzania, towers at an elevation of 4566 meters above sea level. Situated within Arusha National Park, which is in proximity to the bustling northern city of Arusha—a popular stopover en route to the Northern National Parks—Mount Meru is thought to have experienced volcanic activity approximately a century ago. Embarking on the Mount Meru Trek 4 Days offers a uniquely rewarding experience. In the
initial days of the ascent, particularly at lower elevations, trekkers have the opportunity to encounter a variety of wildlife inhabiting the park. This diverse fauna includes buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, monkeys, zebras, and numerous bird species.

While the trek may not be as challenging as ascending Mount Kilimanjaro, it necessitates the use of appropriate climbing gear and additional accessories to facilitate a smoother climb.

Itinerary

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our guide will be there to greet you and transfer you to your hotel. The evening is reserved for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.

Start your day with an early, delicious breakfast before heading to Arusha National Park’s Momella Gate. Here, you’ll register and meet your porters, cooks, and rangers. The climb begins through dense woodlands, offering glimpses of wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, monkeys, and zebras. Your hike continues until you reach Miriakamba Hut, where a delightful dinner awaits, followed by a restful night.

Embark on a scenic journey closer to the summit of Mount Meru. Hike from Miriakamba to Saddle Hut, enjoying spectacular views of cliffs and the Meru Crater along the way. At Saddle Hut, take a well-deserved rest, with an optional 1-2 hour hike to the summit of Mount Little Meru for those with energy to spare

Rise early around 2 am for the final push to the summit. The challenging ascent, preferably done during the dry season, takes 4-5 hours. Capture the breathtaking scenery at the summit before descending to Saddle Hut for lunch. Continue the descent to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and another overnight stay.

On the last day, enjoy breakfast at Miriakamba Hut before descending to Momella Gate, bidding farewell to Arusha National Park. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Moshi for celebrations, relaxation, and preparation for your journey home or further Tanzanian experiences the next day.

After breakfast, pack your bags and leave Moshi for Kilimanjaro International Airport. Saying goodbye to Tanzania may be challenging after the incredible experience of the Mount Meru Trek 4 Days.
