Machame Route – 7 Days

Overview

If you’re interested in the 7-day Machame route package on Mt. Kilimanjaro, it’s crucial to familiarize yourself with the activities you’ll be undertaking. Below, we present a detailed list of day-wise activities to enhance your understanding. We trust this itinerary will prove beneficial to all enthusiasts planning to embark on this journey with friends and family.

Itinerary

Day 01 :

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our experts will meet you and transport
you to the hotel in Moshi for dinner and breakfast, following the provided instructions.
Later, we will gather for the Kilimanjaro briefing and equipment check.

Day 02 :

Commencing from Moshi, your journey will take you to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate, passing through Machame village. After registering at Machame Gate (1800m/5905ft), we will enter the rainforest. Trekking poles and gaiters are recommended. Continuing to Machame Camp (3000m/9,842ft), the distance is 11km/8 miles, with 6-7 hours of walking in the Rain Forest Zone.

Day 03 :

After breakfast at Machame Camp, we leave the glades and ascend through heathercovered, rocky ridges, crossing a valley and a river gorge. Dinner and an overnight stay await at Shira Camp (3840m/12,598ft), covering a distance of 5km/3 miles in 4-5 hours of walking in the Heather and Moorland Zone.

Day 04 :

The journey progresses from Shira Plateau towards a ridge, passing the junction to Kibo peak. Heading towards Lava Tower (4550m/14,927ft) and then to the Arrow Glacier junction, we move on to Barranco Hut (3900m/12,795ft). Rest and overnight stay cover a distance of 10km/6 miles, with 5-7 hours of walking in the Alpine Desert Zone.

Day 05 :

After a successful breakfast, we leave Barranco, traverse a steep ridge, and proceed to
Karanga Valley Campsite (4100m/13,451ft). The distance is 5km/3 miles, and the walking time is 3-4 hours in the Alpine Desert Zone.

Day 06 :

Completing breakfast at Karanga Camp, we head to the junction connecting with the Mweka trail. Continuing to Barafu Hut Base Camp (4600m/15,091ft), we set up camp for stunning views. The journey covers a distance of 4km/3 miles, taking 3-4 hours in the Alpine Desert Zone.

Day 07 :

Early morning ascent to the summit between Ratzel glaciers and Rebmann. Reaching Stella Point (5735m/18,815ft) on the crater rim, a short rest precedes the final climb to Uhuru Peak (5895m/19,340ft), the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro. Descending to Mweka Hut campsite, lunch at Barafu, and trekking down to Mweka Camp (3100m/10,170ft) mark the last dinner on the mountain. The distance is 13km/8 miles, taking 11-14 hours in the Summit Zone.

Day 08 :

After breakfast, descend to the Mweka exit gate (1650m/5500ft), receiving summit
certificates. Lower elevations allow for comfortable attire, using trekking poles and gaiters. Proceed to Mweka village and return to the hotel, concluding the trip. The distance is 10km/6 miles, taking 3-4 hours in the Rain Forest Habitat.
