Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a private transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Moshi. This provides you with the opportunity to unwind and enjoy your first night in Moshi, Tanzania.
Your Serengeti Clarity tour guide will meet you at the hotel for a Mount Kilimanjaro
climbing briefing and equipment check. We’ll also verify that you have the required medical coverage and travel insurance.

After breakfast, we’ll transfer to Londrossi National Park Gate, complete the necessary registration, and embark on our journey to Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail leads through varied farmland with open views, and we often have lunch in the glades before starting our walk. The day’s easy trek takes us through beautiful and lush forests, offering glimpses of buffalo. We camp at Lemosho Forest Camp (2650 m).

Leaving the forest behind, we enter the moorland zone of giant heather after breakfast. The trail climbs steadily with wide views, reaching the rim of the Shira Plateau. There’s a palpable sense of wilderness as we camp at “Shira One” (3550 m) in the center of the plateau.

A steady day of trekking aids acclimatization and allows time to explore the volcanic rock formations of Shira Plateau. We walk to the summit of Shira Cathedral before reaching Shira Hut (3840 m), offering stunning views of Kibo and Mount Meru floating on the clouds.

Explore beneath the Northern Ice Fields for an unusual view of Kibo. The day’s excursion can be a steady climb to the ridge above Moir Hut (4200 m) or a more strenuous walk to the summit of the Lent Hills (4700 m). Enjoy a peaceful campsite for a second night.

Ascend through panoramic views, leaving the Moorland Plateau for the Lava Ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach. The terrain changes to scree, and after lunch near the Lava Tower junction (4550 m), we descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco Valley (3900 m).

A steep climb up the Barranco Wall leads to an undulating trail on the South-Eastern flank of Kibo, with superb vistas of the Southern Ice Fields. Camp at Karanga (4100 m), the last water point, and spend the afternoon resting or exploring the valley for acclimatization.

A short but steep climb out of Karanga Camp, an easy path on compacted scree with wide views, leads to the Barafu Campsite (4650 m). Spend the day resting in preparation for the final ascent.

Start the ascent around 8 am, reaching Stella Point on the crater floor. Descend to the
Crater Camp beside Furtongla Glacier (5650 m).

Summit day! Ascend to Uhuru Peak, and after a photo opportunity, descend to Barafu Camp for lunch. Continue down to Mweka Camp, reflecting on the week’s experiences.

After breakfast, descend to Mweka Gate for a final feast and certificate presentation. Bid farewell to the mountain team and transfer back to the hotel. Shower, relax, and rest.

Late checkout at the lodge allows for relaxation before your flight home or optional
excursions. If flying back, your driver will meet you for the transfer to the airport.
