Kilimanjaro Climbing
Discover Mount Kilimanjaro:
Envision a majestic, snow-capped mountain situated south of the equator, standing proudly amidst vast savannahs. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, beckons thousands to Tanzania each year with a singular goal—to conquer this awe-inspiring summit. Rising to an impressive 5,895 meters (19,336 feet) above the open African plains, the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro lies in its altitude and ascent rate. Conquering the ‘Roof of Africa’ is not just an adventure; it's an opportunity to behold Africa from an entirely unique perspective.
Diverse Climate Zones:
Kilimanjaro is a colossal presence, encompassing five distinct climate zones, each approximately 1000 meters in height. Traverse from bush and grassland to dense rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and finally, the arctic zone adorned with rocks and ice. This journey from the tropics to the arctic unfolds within roughly a week. Climbing Kilimanjaro doesn't demand extensive mountaineering experience, but it requires good health, fitness, mental strength, and a touch of luck.
Variety of Routes:
Choose from different climbing routes, each approaching the mountain from different sides, offering varied lengths, difficulty levels, scenery, and experiences. Marangu and Machame stand out as popular choices, while other routes like Lemosho, Rongai, Shira, and Umbwe provide unique perspectives. Routes range from the shortest, lasting 5-6 days, to the longest, spanning 7-9 days. Revel in breathtaking views of Amboseli National Park in Kenya, the Rift Valley, and the Maasai Steppe during your trek.
Beyond Climbing:
Beyond the ascent of Kilimanjaro, immerse yourself in additional activities. Opt for a hike on the Shira plateau or explore nature trails on the lower reaches. Visit the stunning azure Challa crater lake on the mountain’s southeast slopes, adding depth to your Kilimanjaro experience.

Hiking
Hiking is the preferred term, in Canada and the United States, for a long, vigorous walk, usually on trails (footpaths), in the countryside, while the word walking is used for shorter, particularly urban walks. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland, the word “walking” is acceptable to describe all forms of walking, whether it is a walk in the park or backpacking in the Alps. The word hiking is also often used in the UK, along with rambling (a slightly old-fashioned term), hillwalking, and fell walking (a term mostly used for hillwalking in northern England). The term bushwalking is endemic to Australia, having been adopted by the Sydney Bush Walkers club in 1927. In New Zealand a long, vigorous walk or hike is called tramping. It is a popular activity with numerous hiking organizations worldwide, and studies suggest that all forms of walking have health benefits.
In the United States, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, and United Kingdom, hiking means walking outdoors on a trail, or off trail, for recreational purposes. A day hike refers to a hike that can be completed in a single day. However, in the United Kingdom, the word walking is also used, as well as rambling, while walking in mountainous areas is called hillwalking. In Northern England, Including the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, fellwalking describes hill or mountain walks, as fell is the common word for both features there.
